Brændevin omtales for første gang som en drikkevare i de nordiske lande. Inden da havde spiritus været brugt til bl.a. fremstilling af krudt og som medicin blandt datidens adelige.

De fleste husholdninger i Danmark kan dog brænde deres egen – så det gør de! Men i 1689 bliver hjemmebrænding forbudt.
En ung polak ved navn Isidor Henius kommer til Danmark for at arbejde hos sin onkel i Århus. Isidor er bare 17 år gammel, men han har allerede en vis erfaring med brændevin, da han har stået i lære som ’brænder’ i Tyskland.
Bertel Thorvaldsen udnævnes til æresborger i København.
Polskfødte Isidor Henius regnes for at være grundlæggeren af moderne spritfabrikation i Danmark. Han startede som 25-årig Aalborg privilegerede Sirup-og spritfabrik, som udviklede sig til at blive landets største brænderi. Henius stiftede senere De Danske Spritfabrikker sammen med C.A. Olesen og C.F. Tietgen.
Isidor Henius åbner sin nye fabrik i Urbansgade i Aalborg på det sted, hvor monumentet Cimbertyren står i dag.
Aalborg Taffel Akvavit kommer for første gang i handelen.

Harald Jensen lancerer Harald Jensen Taffel Aquavit og Harald Jensen Export Aquavit.
København får sin første hestesporvogn.
Harald Jensen var bidt af malerkunsten, men forlod Kunstakademiet (som 2. bedste elev!) for at overtage sin fars brænderi i Aalborg. I 1883 solgte han brænderiet til De Danske Spritfabrikker, som bevarede Harald Jensen Akvavit som lokalt mærke. Harald satte livet igennem sit præg på det politiske og kunstneriske miljø i Aalborg, og hans hjem var samlingssted for kunstnere fra hele Norden.
Under slaget ved Dybbøl glemmer de danske og preussiske soldater fjendtlighederne et øjeblik for at skåle i akvavit.
Flere hundrede små lokale brænderier fra hele Danmark samles under navnet De Danske Spritfabrikker, hvor Isidor Henius er direktør. Han får produktionen sat i system, og kvaliteten får et mærkbart løft.
En flaske Aalborg Taffel Akvavit koster 30 øre.
C.A. Olesen var uddannet farmaceut, men lærte kunsten af ’brænde’ hos Isidor Henius i Aalborg, hvor han endte som underdirektør.
I 1878 forlod han stillingen for at blive medejer af et brænderi i Roskilde. Han indledte senere et tæt samarbejde med C.F. Tietgen med det fælles mål at eksportere brændevin til de vinproducerende lande. Begge var medstiftere af De Danske Spritfabrikker, som senere opkøbte en række lokale brænderier i Danmark.
Nordjyske bønder danner ’Bærmeaftagerforeningen’. Bærme er en rest, der bliver tilbage, når man producerer finsprit. Den er nærende for køer og afhentes hver morgen på fabrikken af lokale bønder.
De Danske Spritfabrikker køber Harald Jensens og Anthon Brøndums brænderi.
Dagbladet Politiken udkommer første gang.
Var en af sin tids mest driftige handelsmænd og bl.a. initiativtager til Det Store Nordiske Telegrafselskab, De Danske Sukkerfabrikker og Tuborg Bryggerierne. Han var også stærkt engageret i Det Forenede Dampskibsselskab som sejlede på Middelhavet og som muliggjorde eksport af dansk brændevin til bl.a. Frankrig og Italien.
Tietgen samarbejdede med C.A. Olesen og var sammen med ham medstifter af De Danske Spritfabrikker.
Aalborg lancerer den første akvavit, som er lagret på fade. Den får navnet Aalborg Export Akvavit.
Sommertid afprøves for første gang i København.
For at bekæmpe udbredt alkoholisme indføres ’maksimalpris’ på spiritus. En flaske Aalborg Taffel Akvavit stiger fra 90 øre til 12,40 kr. Og det virker efter hensigten:
Det gennemsnitlige forbrug pr. indbygger falder fra 15 til 2 flasker om året.
Digteren Hans Hartvig Seedorff forærer rettighederne til digtet ’Ren som en jomfru…’ til De Danske Spritfabrikker. Det lyder sådan her:
Ren som en Jomfru og stærk som en Bejler,
hed som det Hjerte, der hamrer mod dit,
kølig som Kilden, der Vårhimlen spejler:
sådan, min ven, er en Dansk aquavit.
Statsminister Stauning indvier DDSF’s nye fabrik, som ligger helt ned til Limfjorden i Aalborg. Grunden er piloteret med 5000 granstammer, hentet i Rold Skov.
Fabrikken tager helt nye produktionsmetoder i brug og bliver et symbol på Danmarks industrielle foretagsomhed.
Bygningerne er i dag under Slots- og Kulturstyrelsens beskyttelse som en vigtig brik i dansk industrihistorie.
Prisen for en flaske Taffel Akvavit er 8,85 kr.
Forsøgsvis indføres en times frokost for damerne på hovedkontoret. Mindst ½ time skal bruges på en spadseretur, så man kan teste, om motion har en gunstig indflydelse på sundheden.
Monumentet Cimbertyren af billedhugger A.J. Bundgaard rejses i Urbansgade i Aalborg, hvor Isidors oprindelige fabrik lå.
Aalborg Jubilæums Akvavit lanceres for at markere Aalborg Taffel Akvavittens 100 års jubilæum.
De Danske Spritfabrikker fejrer jubilæum ved at lancere en speciel 100 års akvavit. Den bliver så populær, at den senere bliver til den Jule Akvavit, der siden 1982 er kommet i handelen i december.
Aalborg Taffel Akvavit lanceres i en specialudgave i anledning af Aalborg bys 2 x 650 års jubilæum.
Shu-bi-dua udgiver et blandet live- og opsamlingsalbum med titlen Stærk Tobak.
Tivolis 150 års jubilæum markeres med lanceringen af Tivoli Akvavit – en specialudgave af Aalborg Taffel Akvavit som blev solgt i et begrænset antal.
